Complete relaunch of a cultural database
The Project
For the federally funded Deutsches Kulturforum östliches Europa, a complete and accessible relaunch of the cultural database was delivered. The entire dataset of the previous system was migrated without loss through an extensive migration script and transferred into a modern, accessible interface.
A dedicated UI and UX concept and a Joomla backend with a purpose-built component form the basis for a future-proof database. The result combines strict accessibility requirements with reliable data quality.
The Challenge
Accessibility was not optional here but a binding requirement, as was the choice of technologies and components. Added to this was the complete data inventory of the previous system, which had to be transferred to the new structure without losses, historically grown formats included. The relaunch thus had two hard tests, making the new interface accessible to everyone and leaving no information behind.
Our Technologies
The database migration ran through an extensive migration script that converted historically grown data formats and transferred the complete inventory into the new structure. On top of this, an independent UI and UX concept with a consistently accessible interface was created, with Joomla and a purpose-built component for the cultural database working in the backend. The binding requirements for technology selection and components were fully met, from the data layer to the interface.
