Relaunch of the involas database system for vocational training
The Project
Anyone managing funded projects in vocational training deals with ongoing programmes, sensitive participant data and the requirements of the German Federal Employment Agency. The idb system by involas maps exactly this daily work, yet the grown platform had aged and content was hard to find.
TenMedia rebuilt the database system from the ground up, with lossless transfer of all legacy data, direct integration of the official eM@w standard and an accessible implementation in line with WCAG 2.1 AA. The new programme and participant management makes content clear, secure and accessible for every education provider.
The Challenge
A relaunch in the funding environment tolerates no gaps. All legacy data had to move without loss, the interface to the eM@w standard of the German Federal Employment Agency had to work flawlessly from day one, and the high requirements for data protection and data security applied without any transition period. At the same time, the new interface had to be so clear that providers and users find their way around without onboarding.
The Solution
The new platform bundles programmes, participants and documentation in a clear, web-based interface with central search and responsive design. The multi-tenant architecture keeps each education provider’s data strictly separated, a fine-grained permission concept controls who sees and edits what, and automated processes take recurring work off the providers. A grown legacy system became a working tool that puts content within a few clicks.
Our Technologies
The modular Laravel backend processes sensitive participant data fully logged and in line with the requirements of the GDPR. The eM@w integration with the German Federal Employment Agency handles all 83 event types of the current standard, one more than the legacy system, safeguarded by more than 90 automated tests. The reporting channel to the German Pension Insurance is already in place. Livewire and TailwindCSS power the interface, accessible in line with WCAG 2.1 AA and usable on any device.
Operation is handled by a container-based Docker architecture with FrankenPHP, MySQL and Redis. Monitoring with Sentry and automated backups protect the system, and the consistent open-source approach keeps the platform independent and maintainable in the long term.
